BC Jobs for BC Workers

When there is a project that needs to be done, and the contracts come in, BC bids would go to the top of the pile. Sure, maybe there will be lower bids from other countries, or other provinces, but I would rather pay that little extra to give BC JOBS to BC WORKERS.

Before the 2010 Olympics, when the Sea to Ski highway needed to be fixed, I wonder just how many BC residents got work out of that one?

Although many people were injured and killed on that highway for years prior, fixing it did not become a priority until the Olympic bid was won.

Then the government sent away to Germany to build the Ferries, when we have the knowledge, the workers, and facilities right here in BC to build, fix, and maintain them. If we don't have a big enough ship yard?  Simple, build one.

In Nanaimo, the tourism website was contracted out instead of hiring fully qualified residents. Where are their priorities?

If we can get people working it means more people paying income tax, more money, equals more investments into BC's economy, and more money for the ordinary person.

If a person can cover living expenses and has some left over, they could actually "save" for a rainy day, or get themselves an R.R.S.P etc.  They would also feel more confident to spend money in their local communities instead of having to support companies in other countries, I.E., Walmart.

Now, here I want to make a point.  I have nothing against foreign investments, but not when it comes at the expense of our own people.  That being said, the money spent at these big box stores, are going down to the States instead of into the pockets of Canadians.  Unfortunately, due to the neglect of the current government, it is too expensive to go to a Canadian store.  For many years, Field's was the place to go if you needed clothing and other basics, until Target moved in, shutting down all the Field's, then closing all their stores, and putting more people out of work.  Many places give no warning, leaving those who have just lost their job through no fault of their own rent, bills, food, medication etc., and no way to pay them.

If a person struggles just to get by, then they will be clutching those dollars more tightly.
